child safeguards

At Lumina Stage Academy, safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do.

We are dedicated to providing a safe, welcoming, and secure environment for all our students. Lumina Stage Academy is proud to have implemented a thorough Safeguarding Policy, which is readily available to parents and staff.

A key feature of our safeguarding approach is that our academy is led by a Director whose primary role is to oversee operations rather than teach. This allows the Director to focus on monitoring the quality of teaching and the well-being of the students while experienced, specialist teachers deliver the classes.

All Directors, teachers, and assistants at Lumina Stage Academy are required to complete Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checks to ensure they meet the highest safety standards. Our safeguarding framework is widely regarded as an example of best practice in the performing arts industry.

Additionally, our Director has access to a dedicated safeguarding support team for advice and assistance if needed. This structure, supported by expert guidance, helps ensure the safety and welfare of every student. The combination of having a non-teaching Director, small class sizes, and access to professional safeguarding advice sets Lumina Stage Academy apart as a leader in child safety.

Inclusivity at Lumina Stage Academy

At Lumina Stage Academy, we recognise the positive and transformative impact the performing arts can have on children and young people. We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where every child has the opportunity to thrive.

We welcome children and young people from all backgrounds, regardless of social, political, religious, or cultural factors, as well as gender or sexual orientation. Our equal opportunities approach ensures that all students have access to the same support, encouragement, and opportunities, whether they are pursuing education, personal development, or career aspirations in the performing arts.

Lumina Stage Academy does not require auditions for places in regular classes. However, auditions may occasionally be held for specific performance troupes or showcase opportunities, which are optional extras for those interested.

All prospective students are invited to participate in a two-week trial period, allowing both the student and the academy to assess their suitability. We are committed to providing all students with a high-quality, professional experience in the performing arts, using diverse teaching methods tailored to their needs.

We also acknowledge that some students may have individual needs, such as SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities), or require additional behavioural or learning support.

While our teachers aim to integrate all students into our classes, we recognise that not every child may thrive in the ensemble-based teaching methods we use.

Parents should note that the two-week trial is a mutual evaluation period. In some cases, it may not be possible to continue with students who, while enjoying the experience, may disrupt the learning of others or are unable to engage fully with the activities.

Wherever possible, and within the resources available, Lumina Stage Academy will make reasonable adjustments to accommodate the physical, behavioural, and learning needs of every child.

We are committed to creating a nurturing, inclusive, and inspiring environment for every student at Lumina Stage Academy.
